Intro to Wire Techniques Part I
Learn the basics — what tools to use and how to use them, the characteristics of wire and the techniques to work with it. You’ll begin with the basics of making head pins, eye pins, jump rings, S hooks and the love knot bead, with plenty of time to practice to improve technique. Learn to work the wire so you’re in control! Instructor: Phyllis Kaplan

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR INTRO TO WIRE TECHNIQUES – parts I & II
Students will need:
22 gauge - At least 3 feet – more is better to allow for practice.
(Copper is the most reasonably priced for practice, you can also use dead-soft sterling silver or gold filled wire, not half hard.)

- 6” ruler
- permanent marking pen (Sharpie)
- notebook & pencil or pen
- flush cutters suitable for cutting up to 16-gauge wire
- extra-long round-nose pliers
- mandrel – aluminum knitting needles (short works fine, size 10 or 11) or any other smooth round object to wrap wire around
- metal files
- jewelry pliers: small round-nose, chain-nose, and flat-nose
- polishing cloth (sunshine cloth is an example)
- fabric placemat to work on or other soft work surface
- chasing hammer with convex (slightly rounded) head
- plastic mallet or hammer
- steel bench block, 2½”x 2½” or jeweler’s anvil
