These are the rules that the contestants followed:
We want you to use your imagination and bead anything in the shape of a bird. You may bead an actual bird shape that is ceramic, wood or another material, or you may bead something that depicts a bird. There is lots of room for interpretation. Let loose! Have fun! The only rule is that the majority of adornments on your bird must be beads. The beads can be attached by beadwork or with glue.
Deliver your beaded bird to Bead in Hand on or before Friday, December 2. Your entry will be given a numbered tag for voting purposes. There will be two categories: Ages 12 and under and Over 12. The birds will be on display and everyone coming in to Bead in Hand will have an opportunity to vote for his/her favorite in each category from 6 pm on Friday, December 2 to 3 pm on Saturday, December 10.
After the voting ends on December 10, the votes will be counted. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the Challenge Celebration on Saturday, December 10, 4 pm. You will be asked to talk about how you came up with your idea and the techniques you used. Bead in Hand gift certificates will be awarded to the top three vote receivers in each category. In the 12 and under category, first prize will be a $25 gift certificate, second prize will be a $20 gift certificate and third prize will be a $15 gift certificate. In the Over 12 category, first prize will be a $50 gift certificate, second prize will be a $35 gift certificate and third prize will be a $25 gift certificate.
For inspiration, take a look at the pictures of previous bead challenges in the Gallery. Remember, it could be your beaded bird pictured on this website next year. You can be famous, too.
Have fun! Start beading!
