SCALLOP EDGE BEADED NECKLACE

Each student should bring knitting needles and a tapestry needle to class, as Bead in Hand does not supply them.  You may also bring your own yarn, or choose from a supply that the teacher will have available for your convenience.  Please bring cash or check to purchase from the teacher.

Yarn: At least 12 yards in a color of your choice.  Yarns good for beaded knitting should resist abrasion, since you will be sliding beads in both directions many times.  Sock yarns work well. So do many yarns made for standard gauge machine knitting. Very fine yarns can be doubled, and the beads strung on both as if they were one.  Choose a high quality yarn – you will be making a beautiful piece that will last for years to come!  For your convenience, the teacher will have a selection of yarns to choose from if you would like to purchase yarn the day of the class.

Knitting needles: One pair US size 3 (3.25 mm) knitting needles.  Metal needles with medium-sharp tips work well.  Optional: You can cast on to a larger size (about a 5), straight, 10-inch aluminum needle, then continue with a size 3 circular.

Beads: About 200 size 6/0 seed beads. The pattern as written calls for

178 beads, so one strand of Czech 6/0 should be plenty for the 17-inch necklace.  If the yarn is too thick for the Czech 6/0s, the Japanese 6/0s in tubes will have larger holes.

Findings: Necklace clasp (toggle or S-hook)

Optional: cones or other decorative findings for yarn ends.

Finishing odds and ends: Beading needle and Nymo D thread to sew on clasps, tapestry needle to weave in yarn ends.
