Third Friday Gallery Walks
On the third Friday of every month, the shops and restaurants in the Oak Park Arts District are open with special events. At Bead in Hand, we are open until 8 pm. Our popular Reinvent Your Jewelry class is every third Friday from 6-8 pm. For more details about that class, go to Basic Beading Classes.
In December, our Third Friday event is a special offer for this class:
Finish Your Project or Reinvent Your Jewelry Grab that unfinished project or bring in the jewelry you no longer wear (because it is either broken or out of style) and DO something with it! Would Grandma’s pearls make nice earrings for the grandchildren? We can help with design and finishing, and loan you the tools you need to finally complete that project you started oh so long ago. Space is limited so please call to reserve your place. Drop-ins are welcome if we haven’t filled up.
December 18, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, $10
Special holiday offer – sign up for $10 and bring a friend for free! (Materials extra, 10% off)
Gift of Gratitude
Now through December 24
To celebrate the “Gift of Gratitude,” many Arts District businesses are encouraging their shoppers to support local charities, including District 97 PTOs, OPRF Food Pantry and Sarah’s Inn. Why don’t you give gratitude to get gratitude this holiday season!
Gratitude Cranes for District 97 PTOs - Local elementary children from Whittier, Longfellow, Beye and Irving wrote and drew what they’re grateful for on 8”x8” white paper provided by the Arts District. Then the artists and business owners in the Arts District created origami crane ornaments out of the children’s gratitudes. The specifics of each child’s words and images of gratitude were folded into the ornaments to create objects of symbolic beauty.
The crane ornaments will be on display and for sale in the Arts District through the holiday season. We have quite a few of them hanging in our front windows. All profits from the sales will be donated to the participating schools in proportion to their contribution of children’s gratitudes.
