With thanks to employee Kim Humphrey, we now send a weekly email for notices about special events and class changes. If you wish to be added to our email list or if you wish to be removed from our snail mail list, call (708/848-1761) or email (beadinhand@bigplanet.com) and let us know. Saving postage and printing costs makes me happy, and conserving paper and resources is good for the environment, which makes us all happy.
I was honored to have my project, Twisted Fringe Tassels, chosen for an Interweave Press book titled Beader's Stash - Designs from America’s Favorite Bead Shops. The book is out, and I have copies for sale in the shop.
I love to hear from customers about how much they enjoy beading and how the process of creating something beautiful can help reduce stress. Recently, a couple of new ideas on the benefits of beading have been expressed to me: -
Use beading to stop smoking! A customer told us that beading was instrumental for her in the process of quitting smoking. It keeps her hands busy and not only prevented her from smoking but also prevented her from eating and gaining the weight associated with quitting. Another customer told us she has been motivated to stay smoke free because she treats herself to beads with her significant savings from no longer buying cigarettes.
- Bring your grandkids! A grandmother told us that she plans special outings with her grandkids to our shop to create something beaded. Our staff is always willing to help our young friends find just the right beads for their project.
How has beading helped you? I’d love to hear from you.
This group of young ladies has been meeting at Bead in Hand for classes with me since April, 1999. One of these ladies is 86 years young. (Estella - the one in the middle, but don't tell her I told you.) They keep me on my beading toes, as I teach them a new project when I am in town. We find things in magazines or books that we like, and then I work the item up first so that I can show them how to do it. We have a lot of fun, and most of my beaded jewelry collection is as a result of leading this group.
As always, I thank you for your business. Keep on beading!
